Welcome to a new age of mountain bike setup and performance analysis. No guesswork.
Absolute performance.
SUSPENSION DATA ACQUISITION
Unleash your bike’s potential.
The best bike-performance upgrade you can make.
Is your bike working properly? How is it meant to feel? What do the adjusters do? Is your bike limiting your potential?
We have the answers to complete your riding experience. Gone are the days of guess work and relying entirely on confusing rider sensations.
Using multiple external sensors and software, our BYB data acquisition system can precisely measure how your bike is performing. Despite being born from the world cup circuit, this system can offer incredible benefits for a wide range of riders who aren’t always chasing the milliseconds.
Combined with our experience in performance coaching, bike setup and suspension theory, we’re offering you a new way to reach your optimal bike setup.
-
A full-bike data acquisition system that uses sensors to collect data on how your bike is performing.
Black and white data uncovers how well your bike is setup and how it is interacting with the trail.
A direct readout from the bike eliminates reliance on a rider to describe how they think their bike feels.
This allows us to make informed, measured changes to reach your own optimal bike setup.
-
Front & rear suspension position (travel usage), dynamic ride heights, compression and rebound velocities, and much more.
Front and rear brake lever usage, to understand when and how much you are braking on trail (optional)
GPS position.
Wired speed sensor (optional).
These insights are exclusive to our bike data-acquisition set up.
-
If you want the best performance from your equipment, this is for you.
Do you need to be on a professional race team? Absolutely not. This system can work for riders of all disciplines (Downhill, Enduro, Trail & XC).
We suggest this system is used for intermediate (comfy on grade 3/4 trails) and above riders.
-
Forget the carpark bounce test or reading countless articles online only to end up in an unknown ‘ball park’.
You’ll get a well-balanced, stable, and predictable bike that gives you the confidence to ride the way you want to.
Changing tracks, conditions, temperatures mean that there’s no such thing as a ‘perfect’ set up - there will always be compromises and sacrifices. With data acquisition you’ll understand where these lie, so we can get you to the ‘best compromise’ much quicker.
A detailed setup sheet, showing the final settings changes that were made during the session.
Knowledge on suspension behaviour, and how to respond to effects you feel on track.
This is as much of an investment in your equipment as it is your own knowledge! We use our experience as coaches to truly understand how your style may influence bike setup.
A CRITICAL SLICE OF THE PERFORMANCE PIE.
SUSPENSION DATA SETUP DAYS
Data-driven bike setup (full day - 6 hours)
A full day experience dedicated to reaching your ideal setup.
Session overview:
Suspension and bike performance analysis using our data acquisition equipment.
We focus on the big picture first - balanced spring rates, spring progression and rebound speeds.
Comprehensive bike setup advice and adjustments.
A detailed record of your settings in a setup log.
Real-world knowledge on suspension theory - We’ll communicate what we are doing to your bike at every step along the way, so you can understand what is going on.
Data drives our decisions, but we aren’t robots. We’ll relate changes back to human feelings on the bike, so you can learn more about what’s going on with your bike.
The end result - A bike that rides in perfect harmony with you.

-
The day/evening before your session, we’ll take your bike and install our data acquisition system.
We’ll note your current settings.
We’ll meet you at our riding destination for the day. For ease of repetition, we use Skyline bike park or Coronet peak.
-
Based on your riding ability, we’ll choose a suitable test track. It is encouraged that you are familiar with the riding location that you choose.
The test track will represent a variety of features and be approximately 2-3 minutes long.
This isn’t the time to tick off new challenging terrain or push your riding boundaries. The rider needs to be 100% comfortable on the track to do repeatable efforts.
After a few warmup laps, we’ll then get stuck into dialing in your bike set up.
After each lap, we’ll download your lap data to our laptop and analyze the results.
We’ll make changes when necessary and ensure we communicate what, why and how we’re going to change your bike.
If we need to install parts like volume spacers, these will be available to purchase after the session.
We aim to ride at least 6 laps.
The data informs our set up choices, but we can always accommodate rider preferences (to a degree).
You have the option on if you would like us riding/following along with you, so all you need to do is focus on the riding.
We can use our coaching expertise and experience to offer another perspective into your bike set up, too.
If we see riding habits and behaviors that could be affecting your setup, we’ll let you know what we can do to help address them.
-
We’ll send you a detailed report on the session.
If we think your suspension needs further tuning work (i.e internal valving), we can make some informed recommendations.
We wont stop until we’re satisfied with the setup. If we don’t get there in one day, we’ll schedule another session at a discounted rate.
-
Lift pass for the riding location.
Additional parts, like volume spacers or replacement coil springs. If required, these can be purchased from us after the session.
-
Read these terms in conjunction with our standard Terms and Conditions.
Customers can opt to take out an additional insurance cover at $20 per session. Without this, customers will be liable for paying our excess charges for replacing damaged equipment (up to $250).
Our system fits most bikes, but there are some exceptions. If we suspect fitment issues, we will be in touch prior to the session.
Sessions run subject to weather. Wet weather will most likely result in rescheduling.
It’s best if a rider comes with an open mind and is willing to make changes to their set up. As with any change, it can take some time to get used to them, so keep this in mind when you ride.
Your bike and your suspension must arrive clean and in good condition.
If it’s been more than a year since your last full service, we strongly recommend getting them serviced before investing in this system.
We cannot guarantee a successful day if your bike or your suspension is worn out, broken, damaged, or its function is otherwise impaired.
We can get very good results from most suspension brands and products. If we are unable to get an acceptable setup using the external adjusters, we can make some recommendations on re-valving or modifying your suspension.
We’re independent, so you can trust our recommendations are for your own best interests.
